The "Gain 1 life" part of this is kind of arbitrary. I understand it is there to trigger effects, but will really require some strong flavour to justify its inclusion

The idea of this was that you can use it to power up Soulsong creatures since you often won't be able to gain life in the same turn you cast them but this always will. If Soulsong doesn't take off as a keyword then the card is a bit pointless.

Not enough ETB to justify this and not enough room at common.

I'm really upset to see this go. It's one of the things that makes Soulsong work without being a recursive effect. Maybe there's room for an instant speed version that targets one creature at uncommon? Perhaps that's just wishful thinking.

Possibly worth testing at 1W Instant for one creature? Then your Soulsong guy coming back bigger and untapped is a great surprise? Feels like it needs to be an instant to do enough but we can test it if you think it is important. We need more Soulsong to make it worth it.

Trying it as an instant speed trick since getting a surprise blocker plus boost seems quite decent.
