Possibly controversial but he's directly competing with a few other creatures at this cost. Compared to Determined Pilgrim, being better actually makes him worse in my eyes because there's no tension at all when he attacks since you gain the life anyway. Determined Pilgrim your opponent may actually let through to stop your 2/3 flier coming down as a 3/4!
