Added tapping. This guy may now be terrible? But he is a 2/1 for 2 with the ability to ping your opponent or give you a lifegain trigger so might still be good. We'll have to try it.

I doubt this guy is the problem, since he's mostly card advantage. Multiple broken combos with Vigorous Study suggest what the real culprit is.

It's definitely true that Vigorous Study is the problem in some sense but we have to have cards that give you a good reward for gaining life to make lifegain good. And drawing cards is a fundamental good reward. If we remove Vigorous Study and Vital Librarian or nerf them hard then the lifegain deck will have to be RW to get access to Searing Meditation/Soulstoking/Chaplain-General otherwise it has the same problem lifegain has always had?

This guy is pretty cool in the U/B deck as you can put portent cards back, doesn't seem that exciting elsewhere though as the drain effect looks to minimal. Compare to Urborg Syphon Mage who was a common and drained for 2 as well as being a madness enabler.

With the tap he seems too weak. Without the tap he is an infinite combo with Vital Librarian that wins the game on the spot. How about {2}? Or should we just retire him?

A lot of problems here. Time to call it a day and cut him? 3 B uncommon creatures doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room for problem children.
