Was thinking about how to do a black miracle, seemed like it could work with Portent instead

Half your life is an awfully big cost. I had the opportunity to Madness this earlier while on 10 life for the best card left in my library and did not as it would have lost me the game. Love the card but concerned about the cost. Or could we make it do more?

At the moment I'm not enjoying this. I keep getting it in my sealed pools (including one with two of them) and I never want to play it. Since you can't cast it from your hand and when you do manage to set it up it costs half your life it seems a bit underwhelming to just get a Diabolic Tutor out of it.

I think it's very definitely a R card in this set because that is the only color able to reliably cast it. But the cost seems too great to actually want to cast it. Maybe if it said "You gain 5 life, Demonic Tutor"??

Maybe make the portent cost a fixed amount of life, and then give it a mana cost so you can cast from hand rather than the madness? Did want to tap into the theme of the black tower with this, hence the non-standard way to play it.

there simply has to be a way to make this card good, it is so close, as stated above the life cost is just to high, it is very difficult to cast and you just don't get what you pay for

With the new one being miles better I think this can finally be retired.
