A 4/2 for 1W, even one you have worked for, seems OP to me at common. Compare Blade of the Sixth Pride. A 2/1 that becomes a 3/2 seems better?

Thought this guy had been retired already. Maybe make him a 2/2 with the ability. Doesn't seem broken at all, as Soulsong can be hard to trigger sometimes

Increasing his toughness seems totally reasonable. Unlikely to get Soulsong on turn 2 anyway and it makes him better late-game.

I keep thinking of Soulsong as a proper bonus, when in reality it isn't too likely to trigger. Pumped him up to a 2/1 for 2, which probably doesn't break anything.

The thing with soulsong is that once you have an enabler down, you can rely on having it active every turn. Bloodthirst in M12 got around that by only having a couple of repeatable enablers (staff of ages, goblin fireslinger) and then relying on attacking or burn.

Blessed Pilgrim is the only proper repeatable enabler (he's the set's Goblin Fireslinger!). Otherwise it's mostly lifelink creatures so you still have to attack (and possibly lose the creature) to get the Soulsong bonus in your turn.
