Mitecrafting

Considering bringing back Auspice to help Blue focus on spells over creatures. This makes loads of chump-blockers. Woo-hoo! (Pretty sweet with Vault Prophet, though!)

These 1 mana Portent+Auspice spells all look pretty scary to me as with two copies you can repeat them for as long as you have mana and Foresight, each turn. While this one doesn't look as oppressive as the tap one, it still seems pretty strong. Is it worth experimenting with cards that only have Auspice and not Portent or are they rubbish?

I think they'd suck a bit if you only had Auspice and you couldn't cast them from the top. Also you seem to think that you can infinitely chain Auspice spells if you have two but that can never happen provided they're all sorceries as even if you chain two into each other only one ends up on top of your library and you end up drawing it. If you had three you could set up a chain that way but then you'd never draw another card again so it may

be a bit good if you can set it up - but are loads of 0/1s really worth never having another draw? As long as they're not crazy effects we're probably okay. Playtesting will reveal all!

Let me walk through it so I understand how Auspice works. Setup: you have 1 Mitecrafting on top of your library and 1 in the graveyard, you have 4 untapped Islands and a Foresight card 1. Play Mitecrafting from top of library, Auspice from one in the yard triggers 2. Put Mitecrafting from yard on top of library 3. Resolve original Mitecrafting 4. Repeat process three more times

Ah I think I misunderstood your comment. I see what you are saying about only able to do it in the one turn cycle. Once you draw the one on top of your library you need any portent card to start the cycle again for that turn. Yes maybe they are okay. Instant speed ones are still potentially dangerous :-)

If Auspice ends up being too good, it could be reworded as "When you cast a spell from your library, if ~ is in your graveyard, you may cast it from your graveyard". That's probably a better way of doing it, but I just thought it would be pretty good to put a bunch of cards back on your library then chain them back out again!
