Bakers Empower guy

Cool as Noggles are there is literally no way you're going to find art for them. May have to use a more common creature type.
Kieran Symington · 2014-04-01 09:42:11
True, and in any case, noggles are u/r hybrid :) Like this guy, although 1/3 may be better stat wise? Don't want to obsolete horned turtle!
Paul Hodgson · 2014-04-01 10:03:31
True, I was thinking of making it a 1/3, but decided to just copy Bakers original. I kind of also wanted to make it green, like a Citanul Woodreaders but with a delayed kicker!
Simon O'Keeffe · 2014-04-01 10:18:52
I included Noggles in the creative because they are about the only race shared between U and R and we have two UR wedges. Agreed that the art is probably impossible, though :(
Thomas Baker · 2014-04-01 15:28:24
This is probably too good. The creature isn't completely terrible and it comes with a 'next turn cast divination' attached.
Kieran Symington · 2014-04-01 15:55:00
New ability word templating. I think this is probably the way to go (see Inspired in Born of the Gods).
Thomas Baker · 2014-04-01 16:20:39
Agree in theory that this is probably too good although it's not crystal clear to me. I think the card is fun, though, probably just needs to cost more or be smaller? Could be an 0/2 or cost 3U or something like that. We can play with it.
Thomas Baker · 2014-04-01 16:24:27
I think part of the tension with empower is to make the body worth it, otherwise why not just have the effect in a separate card. If mulldrifter can be a 2/2 flyer for 5 then maybe this can be equally useful but with a higher empower cost?
Paul Hodgson · 2014-04-01 16:46:27
Whether a 1/3 is useful or not depends a lot upon the surrounding environment. This guy doesn't have to have a symmetrical Empower cost but as the Empower ability is better than the body that has a warping effect on when you play him. I guess you would play him if your opponent made two 2/1s. I'm going to have to try these I am not able to reason correctly about them in the abstract. (I also find Echo hard to evaluate too.)
Thomas Baker · 2014-04-01 16:57:09
I think 1/3 is probably a good spot to put him at, as they are always ok in the U durdle decks in limited (and the stoneblade in Zendikar...)
Paul Hodgson · 2014-04-01 18:00:46
(Playtesting) This guy is sweet.
Thomas Baker · 2014-04-13 02:20:55
(Playtesting) This guy is super sweet. Running him out on three versus a 2/2 and 2/1 and then drawing to victory the next turn is pretty awesome. Is possibly too good but I'm really not sure about that.
Thomas Baker · 2014-04-14 03:07:21
(Playtesting) This guy is far too good for a common. He should either move to Uncommon or e draw one card but a 1/4.
Kieran Symington · 2014-04-16 17:04:08
Trying a less broken version.
Thomas Baker · 2014-04-17 04:53:22
Decided an actual choice was better than an obvious choice.
Thomas Baker · 2014-04-17 04:54:17
This is probably fine now, basically a bad Citanul Woodreaders, but better in some minor situations in the early game when you might need to be more flexible with your mana.
Simon O'Keeffe · 2014-04-17 08:12:16
If Cognate/Twincast takes off, any desire to reword this as "Look at the top 2 cards of your library, put one in your hand and the other on top of your library" ?
Simon O'Keeffe · 2014-04-23 13:25:07
This is still one of the best commons! The Horned Turtle side shuts down an aggro start so you always get to do the cantrip!
Kieran Symington · 2014-05-21 11:54:52
Definitely like this guy. Could possibly become a 1/3 so it's not such an insanely good roadblock?
Thomas Baker · 2014-05-21 18:15:24
This card is basically an archetype. So awesome. Could definitely be a 1/3
