Phalanx Archer is a bit of an oxymoron. A Phalanx is generally a massed unit of heavy infantry armed with spears/pikes. We could use Velites which were like skirmishers.

These guys were pretty great actually. Once you get your expensive two drop you also get an ineffective pinger but it was pretty useful for me in a long drawn out game.
