A spell in place of a creature slot, the chance of 10 power for 5 mana may be very strong, but this would be awful at 6 mana. Maybe that is okay? Not every common can be strong.

The variance on this is insane. Half the time it's overcosted and the other half it's broken! Perhaps Cognate could have more applications than copy? So for example this could give the token Haste if it hits and then be costed reasonably.
