I think there's a slot for a red spell and rituals work with Empower at least, plus possible aggro decks. The 'drawback' is probably never relevant even if it does give your opponent 4 mana for free.

This card is insane in formats it can never be played in. But is it playable in limited? Mana Confluence is the name of a chase rare in JOU by the way.
